Summary
World Gone Mad Word on the Week 21st March 2026.
This last week has seen the equinox bring an end to the rain and usher in the sun. The potatoes can now be sown and the normal rhythms of life restored. However, that was about the only thing that was normal!
If you had dropped in from Mars, you would be forgiven for thinking that Man was doing his best to set the world on fire! The Middle East, where many countries have oil fields, are hell bent to set their neighbours alight.
Drones and rockets laden with explosives have been the weapons of choice. They give evil leaders of countries the tools to inflict maximum damage at minimum cost in terms of soldier deaths. They have proved to be pretty useless at conquering the enemy but that does not stop their use.
A new weapon presented itself this week in Iran’s Strait of Hormuz. This presents Iran with a control mechanism as many oil tankers sail through the narrow strait where they are vulnerable to destruction.
Because of the world’s dependence on oil there is now an economic factor involved as Iran turns off the tap!
Because sin has blinded us humans we behave like rats caught in a trap and mindlessly continue to do the same thing producing the negative result. One variation to this was Putin’s congratulation to the new Iranian leader which may add treachery to the sin list!
It is hard to believe that any of this is what Isaiah envisaged when he wrote of the nation’s streaming into Mount Zion but certainly the Word of the Lord has gone out from Jerusalem (Isaiah 2 verses 2 to 5) and we have gone in the opposite direction.
We have been given an escape route to escape the corruption of the world caused by evil desires (2 Peter 1 verses 2 to 11). Taking this route leads you into the love of Christ captured beautifully in the hymn –
The Saviour died, but rose again Triumphant from the grave; And pleads our cause at God’s right hand, Omnipotent to save. Who then can e’er divide us now From Jesus and His love, or break the sacred chain that binds The earth to heaven above? Let troubles rise and terrors frown, And days of darkness fall; Through Him all dangers we’ll defy And more than conquer all. Nor death nor life, nor earth nor hell, nor times destroying sway, Can e’er efface us from His heart Or make His love decay.
