Summary
The Fall and Rising Again Word on the Week 26th September 2026.
This week I walked again – unaided! The joy of having functioning legs again reminded me of my first steps as a tiny tot as I made a grab at the nearest piece of furniture! The return to mobility after 3.5 months a cripple brought forth a paean of gratitude to the living God who has been with me ‘every step of the way’!
From the morning it occurred I had the impression that the Lord was giving me the Jacob treatment (Genesis 32 verses 24 to 32)! The difference was that He used a Rubus plant, which we had used for ground cover, to entangle my feet and bring me down onto the tarmac.
I landed on my right hip without any bones breaking! This puzzled the hospital so with nothing broken I was discharged the same day. There were no outward marks so the bruising must have been internal.
The early weeks were not without pain but from the 6th June when I fell we were living in a heatwave. This made many things easier. I graduated from a walking stick to a rollator which was a great help and thanks largely to the work of my physiotherapist daughter, Lynn, whose exercises the Lord used to restore my leg.
What lessons have I learned? Certainly to accept the assistance of others when, in the early days, negotiating obstacles proved difficult. Also to accept with gratitude the many acts of kindness from friends and strangers.
But the wisdom of God became apparent in his setting us in families. At times of difficulty the love which we share was wonderful and I feel privileged to be at the centre of it especially these 3.5 months.
It is hard to find a Christian hymn which encapsulates family love. Have thine own way Lord speaks of the surrender which is a forerunner to blessing and the door to relationship with the Lord.
‘Have thine own way Lord, have thine own way! Wounded and weary help me I pray. Power all power surely is thine. Touch me and heal me Saviour Devine’.
‘Have thine own way Lord, Have thine own way. Hold o’er my being absolute sway! Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see Christ only always living in me, ... and you!’
And that’s my prayer for all who read this blog.
