Summary
The Empty Tomb Word on the Week 11th April 2026
Last week’s blog considered The Torn Curtain – torn supernaturally from top to bottom – to give God’s people access to God Himself through Jesus.
This week we consider the Empty Tomb – involving another supernatural act in moving the stone door – not to let Jesus out but to let the people in and see that the tomb was empty.
Jesus had already left. His resurrected body possessed the ability to pass through solid surfaces. This stone door had been sealed in position as the Chief Priests and the Pharisees were afraid Jesus’ body might be stolen and Jesus’ disciples say he had risen (Matthew 27 verses 62/66).
He had risen indeed! And he had left behind neatly folded grave clothes. The stripes of cloth that had been around his head were also folded and lying separately (John 20 verses 6 to 9).
It was a tomb with a view of eternity!
The disciples were initially confused but later recalled that Jesus had warned them that he must die and be buried and on the third day rise again (Luke 18 verse 33).
Although Jesus had raised a number of people from the dead and had Life in himself (John 6 verse 26) he had handed that power to his Father on the cross.
The empty tomb is the most powerful way to vindicate all that Jesus had taught including the fact that there is life after our life here on earth.
In fact, the Apostle Paul taught that such was the magnitude of the event of the resurrection if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins (1 Corinthians 15 verse 17). All hope is gone; death has won.
‘But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep’; the beautiful way Paul puts it in verse 20. The view of eternity from the tomb is now coming into focus. The reality of the experience awaits every follower of Jesus who has sought and found refuge in the Saviour Jesus. It’s a view to be longed for!
